  1. Lots of questions there!

Wigs – you get what you pay for, unfortunately. Most wigs – human hair, horse hair and synthetics – can be washed and styled wet but only real hair can survive heat. It depends if you want to change the style of the wig really, as to how important this is to you.

Good quality synthetics do look really good – the Noriko range from Trenco are styled well, come in a great range of colours (including ‘natural’ hi- and lo-lites) and look very real but you will be paying circa £120 for a long one. For real human hair you will be paying considerably more.

There are lots of cheaper versions available and these are great for parties / nights out – but you will probably have to pay more for day-time convincing!

If I were you I’d go to a good salon in your area, try some on, see and feel the differences between the different makes and fibres and decide what you want. How about:

When you better understand what you’re looking for you can shop around on the internet!

  2. It depends on your budget really. You can get real human hair ones that can be treated exactly like human hair (I wouldn’t recommend straighteners etc because where as a human’s hair continues to grow so the tired, split bits are replaced, a wig obviously doesn’t so all you’re doing is damaging it) but these are EXPENSIVE if you want a good quality one.

A good quality fake one looks ok & if it’s worn properly can be difficult to tell. As to how do they fit – I don’t know! If it’s ebay why not try e-mailing the seller & asking for the internal circumference of the wig then measure your head?

  3. I just bought a wig at a wig shop the next city over. (LA County, CA) They were "Esteica Designs" from $70 to $125. Mine was $125 and made of synthetic. Yes, it looks fine and real. But, it does not feel like real hair. Synthetic is artificial. I don’t think that many people will be touching your hair. There is nothing wrong with wearing a wig anyway. Synthetics are easier to take care of, because they are sometimes thicker. Real hair sheds, and it does not grow back when it is no longer a part of a human being. You shouldn’t cut the hair off the wig. Of course, it will not grow back. You can wash synthetic wigs with a shampoo and conditioner combo. But it on the styrofoam head to dry. Do not blow dry. When you wear your wig, put on the net first and pin it down with a few bobby pins. That will keep it from slipping. Push the net back from your forehead and pull the wig down tight. When looking for wigs, you can try the internet with a search engine or the yellow pages. Good luck!

  4. I wear a wig (I have alopecia) and:
    1) Yes, you can straighten them if you have a decent wig. Real human hair is probably the safest option if you want to apply heat to the hair. Though, as other people have mentioned, this can still damage the hair if done too much.
    2) It depends what type you want. The one I have goes to my mid-back and is real human hair and it cost just over £400. However, that is definitely on the higher end of the price scale, and obviously you can get them a lot cheaper. The more you are willing to pay, the better quality.
    3) It depends how you wear it and what it’s made of. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of Britney Spears when she wore that god-awful blonde synthetic thing which was really shiny and obviously fake. But, to be on the safe side, I’d still opt for a human hair wig if you want it to look more natural.
    4) Ask the seller what the head circumference is. They’ll probably give you an answer in inches. Then, measure your own head with a tape measure – go from just under the "nobble" at the back of your skull, above the ears to the centre of your forehead for the correct measurement. If you get a wig that’s too small then you’ll get headaches whenever you wear it, and one that’s too big will move about and potentially fall off.
    5) Nope, sorry, I live in Stoke. However, you can get quite good deals in online wig shops that deliver with discreet packaging. Google it and see what comes up. :]

    Hope that helps! :D
